The remote valley of Caucasus

Georgia / 2011 / 33 min / Colour

Italian premiere

In the 1920s and ’30s, the American geologist and glaciologist William Osgood Field visited Georgia several times. There he collected more than 500 ethnographic photos, made three documentaries, and wrote numerous essays, in particular regarding the mountainous region of Svaneti. These documents were discovered after eighty years by a professor, Irakli Iakobashvili. Following in the footsteps of Field and his ad- ventures in Georgia, we can reconstruct the history of that period, like a voyage through time.
