Shot when the director of La Grande Guerra was almost ninety, I sentieri della gloria pays homage to Mario Monicelli. The reportage is constructed on two levels. Sitting in front of a moviola, Monicelli watches and comments on the films from his trip-pilgrimage in the sum- mer of 2004 to the sites where in 1959 he filmed La Grande Guerra. This return to the old locations (Gemona, Venzone, Palmanova) was also the occasion to encounter, between the piazzas and osterias, the now-elderly extras.
