VULCANO

VOLCANO

/ 1950 / 106 min / Black and white

Maddalena, a former prostitute, returns to the volcano-dominated island, where she is warmly welcomed by her sister Maria, but not by the other inhabitants, who are tied to their habits and regressive mentality. Shot on Vulcano and starring Anna Magnani, this film marked the end of the actress’ relationship with Roberto Rossellini who in the same period was making Stromboli - Terra di Dio with Ingrid Bergman, who would become his new companion.
