ROSIA MONTANA, TOWN ON THE BRINK

Germania / 2013 / 78 min / Colour

Since an important Romanian mining company, financed by Canadian shareholders, began extracting minerals in Rosia Montana, the charming town in the Carpathian Mountains has fallen into total disrepair. These mountains contain Europe’s largest gold deposits, but this immense wealth, slow to bring great benefi ts to the inhabitants of the area, has become the cause of ruin and devastation. With an inquisitor’s eye, this documentary denounces a multinational company’s exploitation and the impotence of the citizens, showing the apocalyptic scenario in which human greed has led to the abandonment of a corner of the mountains.
