IL PAESE SOTTO LA NEBBIA - FFDL

NEGERI DI BAWAH KABUT

THE LAND BENEATH THE FOG

Indonesia / 2011 / 105 min / Colour

Italian premiere

A slow, visual voyage leads us to meet a family in the remote village of Geniken, on the slopes of Mount Merbabu, on the island of Central Java. There, a community of farmers is facing a drastic climate change in their region. Populations that still rely upon the traditional system of the Javanese calendar to read and interpret the passing of the seasons, now see their ancient habits failing and the harvest radically diminished. For the young family, finding the resources to allow their son to study becomes problematic. Yet, despite a world on the verge of extinction in a society that seems invisible and without rights, these smiling mountain people maintain their optimism and desire to carry on.
