QUÉ SUEÑAN LAS CABRAS?

WHAT DO GOATS DREAM OF?

Messico / 2012 / 94 min / Colour

In the mountainous region of Mixteca, between the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Puebla,a tradition of slaughtering goats has been renewed annually for more than 400 years. The“Matanza” takes place at the end of the rainy season, when the animals are at the peak of their health and strength. The shepherds sell their goats, which are led into a courtyardwhere the entire community participates in the slaughter. Every part of the animal is utilized. This custom, typical also in other parts of the world, becomes a rite that combinesmythical meanings with the need to feed the population.
