MOVING MOUNTAINS

Andrea Costa / Italy / 2025 / 29 min / Colour

Having emigrated from Guinea-Bissau, the young Moussa finds a new home at Rita’s hut, nestled in the mountains of South Tyrol. The world he finds himself in is very different from the one he left behind, yet it seems that up there, Moussa has discovered a sense of belonging to a new homeland. In the daily gestures of work and prayer, Moussa and Rita, distant in origin but close in their desires, seek a new balance, united by a shared longing for family. At the same time, Moussa remains connected to a group of peers from his homeland, seeking to preserve his cultural identity and maintain ties to his roots. His story mirrors that of many others who, having arrived in a foreign land, must navigate unfamiliar environments, customs, and traditions, even more so when their new life unfolds in the mountains. And these very mountains, as the film’s title suggests, are “moving” too—transformed by the presence of new mountain dwellers like Moussa.
