This is a true story, told by the protagonist herself. During World War II, Lydia, eighteen years old, discovers she is one quarter Jewish. At the same time, she falls in love with the young Klaus. She is arrested by the Gestapo for having publicly declared that Hitler is losing the war, and while in prison learns that she is pregnant. But Klaus is also Jewish, and for this reason sought by the Nazis...
