Jensei - A life as a refugee

Jens, or “Jensei” to his friends, has been a poacher for forty years and has killed more than 1000 chamois. What began as a passion, and a rebellion against his parents, school, and every form of authority, soon became an obsession. When the fog rolls in or the weather turns bad, it is as though “his legs, by themselves, take him into the woods”. His is a wild and free life that has, however, made many people who live around him unhappy. In 1984, caught by the gamekeepers, he was forced to escape to Canada, leaving his wife and daughter alone for twenty months. When he returned, the marriage was over. Since that day, twenty-four years ago, he hasn’t seen his daughter. “Der Jensei” now lives in Chiemgau with Christa, the latest of many women in his life and the only one able to keep up with him. He has given up poaching. He dreams of returning one last time to Sápmi aboard his tractor: 6000 kilometers at 6 kilometers per hour.
