Cheyenne, trent'anni
Cheyenne, thirty years
Michele Trentini / Italy / 2008 / 58 min / Colour
Born in Bavaria, after attending the Steinerian school in Wangen, Cheyenne went to a school for shepherds and worked as a transhumant in the Black Forest and in Switzerland. She has lived since 2001 in the Val di Rabbi where, thanks to an agreement with the local government, she grazes her flock “for the care and maintenance of the landscape”. This is one of the first initiatives of its kind in Italy. Cheyenne’s summer is marked by the building of enclosures for the animals, the patient care of the sheep’s illnesses, the transhumance in the valley, and the solitude of accompanying her flock, as well as an encounter with a group of tourists. Hers is, above all, a chosen freedom. This job permits her to live completely in a natural environment. Glances, silences, stories, and images contributes to the portrait of this young woman who faces up to her times, her choices, and her work.
