Le terre alte

THE HIGH LANDS

Andrea Zambelli, Andrea Zanoli / Italy / 2020 / 87 min / Colour

Italian premiere

A year of life across the entire Alpine arc, from the thaw to the arrival of winter, through the eyes, gestures and reflections of three characters: Virignie, Marcel and Valentin. Far from the stereotype of the mountain man, the three protagonists are the expression of a contemporary, resistant and sometimes innovative trend of living and working in the Alpine area: a return to ruralism that is for them both a political and a spiritual choice. Le terre alte captures, with an attentive and impartial eye, a possibility of existence alternative to the frenzy of contemporary civilisation, and the desire to embrace a rhythm that advances at the slow and cyclic pace of nature. As the seasons change and in the quiet fatigue of working in the fields and with the animals, a destiny is fulfilled that indicates, without clamouring, a concrete desire to change things.
