In the state of Nagaland, in the extreme north-east of India, Christianity took over already in the early decades of the twentieth century, under English domination. In 1964, a village chief belonging to an ancient tribe of Naga headhunters still put up a strong resistance to conversion, in the loneliness that accompanied him after the death of his wife. Every day the rituals and traditions of the ancestors are transmitted by him to his teenage son Amao, in the hope that he can pass them on to posterity. But the boy is still searching for his identity, among the pristine nature that dominates the highlands, on the border with Myanmar. Theja Rio worked with non-professional actors and shot a 16mm film leading the lens through a still little-known story. The drama of religious colonialism is mixed with a familiar and intimate portrait, attentive to every change that will overwhelm the protagonists.
