Alerted by a tip, a young novice photojournalist sets out on his journey to a remote Indian village hit by an earthquake that should have completely destroyed it. On his first major assignment, the reporter is eager to get to the scene before anyone else, but soon realises that he is trapped in a deep mystery. The more he moves among the desolate mountains and dense forests, the more the young man seems to move away from his goal, rather than approach it. Along the way, mysterious presences and disturbing locals just seem to want to make fun of him, with cryptic clues and bogus directions. Nilanadukkam leads us through lands cancelled by impenetrable mists and suspended in motionless time, where the mysterious echoes of stories that may have been or perhaps still must be resound.
Balaji Vembu Chelli
Balaji Vembu Chelli studied film at L.V. Prasad Film & TV Academy in Chennai, India. His first short films were selected and awarded at various festivals. In 2018 he founded the film company, Fly On The Wall Films, with which he produced his debut feature film Nilanadukkam (2020).
