Creatura dove vai?

Creature, where are you going?

Gaia Formenti, Marco Piccarreda / Italy / 2019 / 52 min / Colour

In a rough and metaphysical South, immersed in the dazzling light of a fabulous nineteenth century, the Creature receives the visit of a mysterious saint who intimates a pilgrimage from the unknown destination. An ignorant old peasant woman, the Creature sets off with a pickaxe and a few poor things. The saint's voice, so easy to hear, is however difficult to understand in his cultured diction and the journey towards bliss will be dotted with misunderstandings: a via crucis of privations, thefts, violence perpetrated by the rough and primitive people that the woman will meet on her journey, arriving to doubt her own faith. Even the final landing at an enchanted mountain will seal, rather than the hoped future of bliss, the sign of a Grace that remains unsearchable. Moving from the fascination for a land of violent contrasts, Creatura dove vai? builds the tragicomic parable of a life suspended between holiness and blasphemy, culture and nature, the human and the bestial.
