Qu'importe si les bêtes meurent

So What If The Goats Die

Sofia Alaoui / France, Morocco / 2019 / 22 min / Colour

Abdellah lives with his father in the mountains, on a small farm at the edge of the desert. His solitary life is dedicated to prayer and the care of the family flock. When the food for the goats runs out, he must stock up at the village, beyond the snowy plateau. When he arrives, the young man discovers that the streets are now empty, while strange lights appear on the horizon. Winner of the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the last Sundance Film Festival, Qu’importe si les Betes Meurent explores, with a language that oscillates between documentary and pure fiction, the collision of two opposite universes. Filmed in Morocco's Atlas Mountains, Sofia Alaoui's short film tells of a life out of time, far from Western customs, using the visual codes of genre cinema. Abdellah's journey will question his beliefs as he peers into a new, vast, unknown world at the gates of ours.
