The diaries of Ettore Castiglioni stop in March, 1944, shortly before his desperate act when, after entering Switzerland with a fake passport and being arrested in Maloja, without clothing or boots he decided to climb the glacier at Forno, an endeavour that cost him his life. The writer Marco Albino Ferrari uses these diaries as a starting point to reconstruct the personal story of a restless and solitary Alpinist and intellectual. A young man of a good family, lover of art, pianist, soldier, and then partisan, Castiglioni had a family summer house in Tregnago, in the Lessinia Mountains, where he spent pleasant days. After September 8, he found a new reason for living, accompanying fugitives and Jews over the Swiss border. Among them was the future president of the Italian Republic, Luigi Einaudi. What drove him, aware of the dangers, to face that final, extreme act in search of freedom?

  Federico Massa

  Both a producer and director, in collaboration with Gian Piero Brunetta (professor of film history and criticism at the University of Padua) he has made documentaries about various authors and directors, among them Mario Rigoni Stern, Marco Paolini and Ermanno Olmi. After a master's degree in audiovisual media at Cinecittà, he returned to Padua where he founded the production company AViLab.

  Andrea Azzetti

  A video reporter from Padua, he collaborates with the major Italian news media (RAI, Mediaset, Sky), and also produces corporate videos. In his work, he devotes particular attention to the study of light.
