SHARP FAMILIES

Patrick Grassi / Italy / 2016 / 54 min / Colour

For a century, the men of the Trentino Dolomites departed to seek their fortune in the world, taking with them the ancient professions they carried out in their mountains. Among these, the knife-grinder, a trade that while profoundly changed over the years, is still practiced by the children and grandchildren of these emigrants. Thanks to this ancient art of knife construction and maintenance, the descendants have held on to the bond with their native land.  Today, three families from the  Val Rendena are the leaders in the knife market in London. The humble work of their fathers and grandfathers has become a global business.
