Two old famers live on a farm in an isolated valley in the German mountains. It is winter, and the cold of the snow, that deposits on the barren countryside, seems to have also penetrated their relationship, by now consisting of bickering, grumbling, and boredom. The days go by, filled with daily chores that have now become difficult for the elderly pair. Their only help is from a mule, now old and ill. Only when the moment comes to say goodbye, do the farmers realise how fond they are of the animal, and the sincere affection they feel for it.

Rafael Haider
Born in Oberndorf, Austria, in 1989, he directs documentary and short films. He received his training as a director at the University of Music and Performing Arts, in Vienna. His films include Unmut (2009), Romeo & Julia (2010) and Esel (2015).
