SILA AND THE GATEKEEPERS OF THE ARCTIC

Corina Gamma / United States / 2015 / 70 min / Colour

The word "sila" in the Inuit language of Greenland encompasses the meanings of weather, equilibrium, and self knowledge. Life in a harsh and inhospitable environment has allowed the Inuit to fully understand the link between the inner balance of human beings and the balance of nature. In the fragile ecosystem of the Arctic, where climate change and global warming are particularly evident, an international team of scientists conducts its research, while Qillaq and Peter experience directly the thinning of the ice cap, with the shortening of the hunting season and the inevitable change to their traditional lifestyles.
