ARREO

Tato Moreno / Argentina / 2015 / 90 min / Colour

Italian premiere

Eliseo Parada is a transhumant shepherd from Malargüe, in the western region of the Argentine Andes. With his wife and children, his is a family of authentic gauchos who must reckon with the lifestyle changes imposed by "progress". For how much longer can they carry on the tradition of transhumance passed along for generations? The grandiose Andean landscapes form the background for this recounting of the strenuous climb of the goats up the steep mountains and the dangerous river crossings.  Then, in the evenings, while the animals enjoy their well-earned rest, the shepherds gather around the fire. Father and sons sing traditional songs, and the night vanishes in the slow cadence of the dialogue.
