In Lebanon and a few kilometres away, in Syria, a long war is being fought. Boushra, a girl who picks potatoes, returns exhausted from an intense day of work in the field together with her young colleagues. Something inside her is changing and she no longer sees herself as enchanting as she once was. All of a sudden we see her on a swing, dressed as a bride. And there she is again, motionless on a 4:3 screen without dialogue, in the middle of the field. The bombs, the crowds, the music and the dances contrast with her immobility, which instead contains turbulent interior changes and serious responsibilities of adult life. Trumpets in the Sky is a dreamlike and symbolic short film that conveys the centrality  in Lebanese culture of work and marriage, a decision that for girls is often still suffered and unwanted. Boushra doesn't know yet that, on that day, her childhood will come to an end.
