JOHN – DEN SISTE NORSKE COWBOY

JOHN - THE LAST NORWEGIAN COWBOY

Frode Fimland / Norway / 2021 / 90 min / Colour

Italian premiere

92-year-old John Hoiland runs his enormous ranch in Montana all by himself. The son of a Norwegian immigrant, he has been raised to work hard and save his dollars for a rainy day. But life on the ranch is the only life he wants, and he finds great joy in nature, his animals and his daily chores. John never throws anything away, and he constantly repairs the engines of the old cars, trucks and tractors on his property. Every day he talks to his best friend, Jim, a friendship that goes 75 years back. John is a modest guy with little experience with women and “life’s sweet temptations”. Jim has tried it all – “and then some”. Despite the differences between them and the fact that they mostly talk about the weather, their friendship is strong, and Jim is the most important person in John’s life. They also share a love of music, and the two friends often play their accordions at local gigs in the nearest little town.
