Fire in the mountains

Ajitpal Singh / India / 2020 / 82 min / Colour

Italian premiere

Every day Chandra walks the stone steps that separate her home from the village on the Uttarakhand plateau, where Northern India meets the Himalayan mountain ranges. Always clinging to her shoulders is her son Prakash, who hasn't walked for months and barely talks to her, surrounded by a thick bark of resignation. Chandra has been saving up for some time to have the money to complete a road that would allow her son's pram to get to the hospital for necessary treatment, but not everyone shares her hopes. Ajitpal Singh - in his feature film debut - leads the camera's gaze beyond the peaks, rocks and rich vegetation to immerse the viewer in an India divided between the dogmas and traditions of the ancestors and a modernity that infiltrates the lives of the protagonists, intertwining with their bodies.
