A BITTER STORY

Francesca Bono / Italy / 2016 / 53 min / Colour

The second largest Chinese community in Europe is in the Piedmont region of Italy. Since the 1990s, Barge and Bagnolo, two small Chinese centres in the Cuneo area at the foot of the Alps, have seen the arrival of an ever-growing Chinese population, drawn by the opportunity to work in the stone extraction industry. In the schools of the two towns, the majority of students are Chinese, caught up in a process of maturation, learning, and integration, which comes up against rigid family structures and varying work prospects. The director has chosen the teenagers' point of view to tell this story.
