ÇEVIRMEN

THE TRANSLATOR

Italian premiere

Yusuf, a young, timid Syrian boy, lives as a refugee in a remote town on the Turkish border. In the mountain quarry where he works, he meets and grows fond of young Amina, who seems completely disinterested in him. One day, out of the blue, the girl makes a date with him at the amusement park. Yusuf prepares himself carefully, but his efforts are useless. What did Amina want? A friend, or simply an interpreter? The youth's expression changes; his innocence is lost and on his face we see the bitterness that no revenge can mitigate.
