RAUF

Barış Kaya, Soner Caner / Turkey / 2016 / 94 min / Colour

Italian premiere

Rauf does not like school. The young boy prefers hanging around the shop of an elderly artisan from the town and learning the art of carpentry. Because of the continual guerrilla warfare in the Turkish mountains, his work consists mainly of making caskets. His life of playing games with his companions is disrupted by a burst of Platonic love for a girl much older than he, who he attempts, obsessively, to win over. In a world dominated by the black of death and the white of snow, erupts the energy of pink, the colour of love. A story of youth and rebellion, against the backdrop of the drama of war and the salvation that comes from friendship.
